1. 2025 Best National Universities

Columbia due to its complicated history with U.S. News since they refused to submit data directly, fell to #13

This year’s ranking has a better reflection of the socioeconomic aspect since a tweak in the methodology. ” The most significant change to the methodology for 2025 was the removal of first-generation students’ six-year graduation rates from the formulas for ranking national universities and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. ”

3. Schools that have moved up:

This year’s list is reflective of a dramatic move of some schools moving by 30  to the middle of the rankings. “First-generation-student graduation rate data were also removed from the 2025 Historically Black Universities Rankings and the Social Mobility rankings for National Universities for the 2025 Best Colleges edition.”
