Northwestern University Class of 2029
Northwestern University admitted over half of its Class of 2029 in the Early Decision round. The university received nearly 6,000 applications, which is a rise of 15.5% from last year’s application pool. These students will comprise around 55% of Northwestern’s Class of 2029. NU will have admitted 1200 students from the ED application pool. NU’s early admission rates in 2023 were around 20% from a pool of 5207, and in 2022 the acceptance rate was approximately 19%, according to the Daily Northwestern.
Northwestern University witnessed a substantial geographical diversity. The Dean of Undergraduate Admission, Liz Kinsley, mentions that the university has seen an uptick in applications from international students. Being ranked No. 11 by Forbes for the year 2025 would have contributed to this increased number of international students who want to study mainly in the top-ranked universities in the U.S. Interestingly, the number of students applying from rural areas and small-town high schools has also increased by 40% for the class of 2029. The incoming class includes almost 140 QuestBridge Scholars, which is similar to last year’s numbers. The number of first-generation students in this Early Decision class also remained the same from last year, with 16% of applicants identifying as the first in their families to attend college.
Standardized Tests
Northwestern is one of the few elite universities that continued its test-optional policies for the year 2024-25, which could be a reason for applicants favoring the university. The college website clearly mentions that “applicants may submit an SAT or ACT score if they wish, but these scores are not required.”
The university evaluates applicants’ academic and intellectual fit for Northwestern through a holistic review of grades, the rigor of courses taken in the high school course, teachers’ recommendations, academic honors, etc. The writing supplements are a key component, as this enables the university to gain information specific to your own experiences.
