Wellesley College, ranked 23 by Forbes- America’s Top Colleges 2025, is a private women’s liberal arts college in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The college is renowned for its emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches and the excellent breadth of academic offerings. Changing Trends

The Wellesley acceptance rate is significantly low, with just 13% (1,092 students) gaining admission from nearly 8,400 applications for the class of 2028. That year saw the second-highest number of applicants the college had ever received. Undoubtedly Wellesley seeks to admit exceptional students who demonstrate academic abilities and the potential to contribute to the campus community. Students must not be disheartened by the low acceptance rate since Wellesley College offers both Early Decision (ED) and Regular Decision (RD) application options. The admissions committee evaluates each applicant’s academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and personal qualities and values.

Geographical Diversity

They hail from 47 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and APO/AP, as well as 30 countries outside the United States. 18%  are the first generation in their families to attend a four-year college; 10% are international citizens while 15 students were admitted through the QuestBridge National College Match program.

Standardized Test

Wellesley College continues to adopt a test-optional policy, giving freedom to students to decide whether to submit their SAT or ACT scores. As mentioned above, the college looks at applications in a holistic manner, but if a student has a good score and feels that this gives him/her to strengthen their application, we do recommend submitting the score. However, essays and extracurricular involvements play a very important role in determining acceptance. Wellesley wants students to show intellectual curiosity and commitment to making an impact as more endearing than mere scores. The university website mentions that; “since the introduction of test-optional practices at Wellesley, approximately 45% of our enrolling first-year students chose to apply without testing.” The college requires two letters of recommendation from teachers.

But to give you a perspective, for some of the admitted students who submitted test scores, the middle 50% range for the SAT falls between 1430-1550, and for the ACT, it is 32-35. Wellesley – First-Year Applicants

Competitiveness

The college’s ethos of emphasis on a collaborative rather than a competitive environment encourages students to support one another.
